   I answered with my standard greeting, there was an extremely long pause. I finally said "hello" again, and got a pre-recorded message: "Hello, this is an important message from Dish, your TV provider ..." I hung up. We are a business and do not have TV, much less through Dish.

   Sounds like a wrong number. I get pre-recorded calls from a local school constantly because they have a number in wrong.

   I do not have Dish, yet this number called my cell phone number that I have never shared with anyone and never used for voice or texting. I only use the phone for the hotspot connection. 855-531-3493 might be Dish, but it also might be a spoofed number, or else Dish is making telemarketing calls to random phone numbers. Blocked and forgotten.

    I do not answer numbers I don't recognize. It would be nice to know that the number showing is actually DISH calling & not a SPAM call --especially if it's a tech trying to schedule/update one on their service call

    This is a scam from people pretending to be DISH. They called to schedule a technician to come out and install new equipment. Caller ID said it was DISH. They wanted my four digit security code, or birth date & last four digits of SSN. There would be a charge for the service call and a security deposit on the new equipment. We scheduled an appointment time. Then I emailed DISH & they replied that no one from their company had called me, they did not have any service visit scheduled, & if I got another call to let their fraud prevention team know. I also called DISH & was told they have a nationwide problem with this scam, & if someone shows up pretending to be a service call, do not let them in & call the police. I asked my phone company & they said people can do "caller ID switching" to fake who a call is from. I just now had a call go to my voice mail to confirm the service call & while caller ID showed nothing, the voice mail recorded that the call had come from 855-531-3493.

    There must have been a mix up somewhere, possibly they took down a wrong number?
    
    I have three missed calls from this number. Searched to try to find out who it was from. I actually had Dish installed earlier that day. After seeing your reply that they claimed to be Dish, I checked back further in my call logs and sure enough, this is the number that I was corresponding with that morning to confirm the scheduled appointment
