   Received a call from 916-845-1385 twice with caller ID showing: ST OF CA FTB. I did not pick up and let the call go to voicemail. I then called back and a recording comes on saying "The caller is not accepting calls at this time." I don't think the Tax Board phone number goes to a cell phone. First of all, I know for a fact I don't owe any taxes and secondly, they would not abbreviate their name like that. After reviewing these comments, I know this was fraud.

   A lady name Sue called, posing as the CAFTB. This is a SCAM!

   A lady calling from 916-845-1385 claiming to be Esha (Sounded Japanese), claimed to be calling me from the CA Franchise Tax Board stating that I had a credit balance they needed to determine what to do with. (First suspicion from me). Then she wanted to verify who I was asking me to verify my last four of my SS# (2nd suspicion from me). I told her I don't know that you are actually calling me from the Franchise Tax Board. She said she understands and that I can call her back on this other number she gave me after I google it: 916-845-5967. (my third suspicion - a different number & not an 800 FTB#).

   If you filed your 2020 tax return by Oct 15 2021, you were probably eligible to receive the California Middle Class Tax Refund (MCTR) of $350 minimum to $1,050 maximum. If your 2020 tax refund was direct deposited to your bank account, you probably already got your MCTR automatically to the bank account your refund was sent to sometime in October or November 2022. If you don't have the same direct deposit bank as you had in 2021 anymore, the FTB would have sent your MCTR payment to you on debit card in the mail. Search online for the MCTR debit card. It has been in the news recently. A lot of people have not used the money on their debit cards and they will lose that money soon because the state plans to take it back. Check the FTB website for MCTR information to get the phone number to call if you need to replace your debit card if it was lost. So, yeah, that phone call was most likely legit.

   Claimed to be from FTB. Name used was Del. Wanted a call back right away. Funny thing, it's Sunday. Have you ever heard of someone in this organization working on Sunday. He then went on to say that the FTB hours were Monday through Friday except for state holidays. "Del" needs to practice his deliver a little more.
